IRIS|international research institute on social fraud is a knowledge center that gathers relevant information of regional, national and international interest regarding social fraud in the broadest sense of the word. The Institute aims to be a forum where practice and theory meet and inspire each other. - Gentse Klasse(n) on 17 December 2013 – central theme: welfare fraud
On 17 December 2013, Associare and the students of the Master’s course on social security law (Grondige Studie Socialezekerheidsrecht), taught by Prof Dr Yves Jorens, are organising the Gentse Klasse(n).
The central theme this year is welfare fraud, focussing on the role and competences of the Public Centres for Social Assistance (OCMW/CPAS). The students will discuss different problems related to the topic, presenting them to a panel of experts and the audience. These presentations are followed by a debate.

- IRIS present at BLUS colloquium on social fraud, labour exploitation and human trafficking on 19 December 2013
On 19 December 2013, the Belgian-Luxembourg Union for Criminal Law — L'Union Belgo-Luxembourgeoise de Droit Pénal (UBLDP) / De Belgisch-Luxemburgse Unie voor Strafrecht (BLUS) — is organising a colloquium in Brussels on the fight against social fraud, labour exploitation, and human trafficking, and on related national and EU level challenges and solutions.
Prof Yves Jorens, our Director, will give a presentation at this colloquium discussing national measures recently adopted in Belgium to improve the fight against social fraud.

Opening up the social criminal law framework in Europe and spreading information about the different social criminal law provisions within the European Union Member States, is one of the fundamental objectives of
IRIS|international research institute on social fraud at Ghent University.
Our research institute therefore considered it an important task to make the Belgian social criminal legal framework accessible to a broader public by making an English translation of the Social Criminal Code.

The Minister for Employment, Ms Monica De Coninck, represented by her advisor Mr Ludo Beck, and the State Secretary for the Fight against Social and Tax Fraud, Mr John Crombez will elucidate their policies.

The vacancy for a scientific researcher has been filled. We are pleased to welcome Ms Lien Valcke to the team. The IRIS team now consists of Prof Dr Yves Jorens (director), Mr Dirk Gillis (coordinator), Mr Bart Stalpaert (expert-advisor), Ms Lien Valcke (scientific researcher) and Ms Marlies De Coninck (language editor).
- Cooperation between IRIS and NSSO
On 9 March 2012 the rector of Ghent University Prof Paul Van Cauwenberge, the administrator general of the National Social Security Office Mr Koen Snyders and the director of IRIS|International Research Institute on Social Fraud of Ghent University Prof Dr Yves Jorens signed a protocol for cooperation between IRIS and the National Social Security Office.

The Official launch of the International Research Institute on Social Fraud⎮IRIS took place in the AULA of the Ghent University. Amongst the speakers were Carl Devlies, State Secretary for the Coordination of the Fight against Fraud, dr. Jan van Laarhoven, Secretary-General of the Benelux, Armindo Silva, Director of the European Commission's DG-Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion and prof. dr. Yves Jorens, director of IRIS.
